5K Race for the boys

My in-laws live in a very nice neighborhood where a school sponsers a 5K race and also a 1 mile fun run for kids. The boys did the race last year and really enjoyed it they asked again this year to do it. Kaleb did the 1 mile fun run as you can see him below getting ready to start racing. Isn't he cute!
Here is Kaleb running toward the finish line he did so good I was so proud of him. He finished first or second in his age group and around 12th overall the boys. He beat some Jr. High and high school boys. He did a 6:50 mile I think he would've beat me..:) He sure is quick.
Here is Lucas getting ready for his race he decided to do the 5K. As he was lining up he found a few of his friends were also racing in it.
And my little guy finished last although I was later told by my mother in law there was one or two people after him. After the race was all said and done I found out that while he was running a lady right behind him starting puking and then collapsed. He stopped running to help her up and brought her to a police man who brought her to get some water. While tending to this lady he ended up getting passed by everyone and finished almost last with a police escort as you can see. He didn't mind one little bit I was so proud of him that he helped that lady and didn't care about finishing with a good time. I wouldn't have even known if some lady hadn't come up to me when he finished and told me that she thought it was so nice he helped that lady on the course. I asked him about it when we were in the car on the way home and that's when he told me what happened. Oh my I almost started crying! To him it was just what anyone should do I am so proud of him for how he handled that!

Race Day

Tomorrow is my race I've been training for since Jan. It's a 25K race which is 15.5 miles I'm super excited about it but also very nervous. I've ran it the last three years and I always ask myself why I'm doing it again. I can't come up with a great reason only that it keeps me in shape and I honestly love running and the high you get when your finished running that far in a race. The above picture is me running it last year I know terrific pic right:) Here's my hubby's from last year.
He always gets a good one looks like he stopped and smiled at the camera....he's not running this year so maybe he'll be able to take a better one of me. Anyway wish me luck and say a prayer I can still walk after running it:)

My race..

Yesterday was my race that I have been training for it was a 10 mile race through our downtown. It was quite a fun race and one I would like to do again. I really enjoyed every minute of it I'm a little sore today but the joy I get out of running is worth a little pain. I did the race in 1:23.00 which I was very pleased with for me that's a great time. Running is something that really helps me relax and release stress in my life. I thank the Lord that I can run and am healthy and able to.

Running..

"I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me" Phil. 4:13

This is one of the verses that I recite to myself as I'm running. A few weeks ago my friend Amy and I were running and doing a tough hill route. Seven miles into our run we hit a huge hill at the same time we started saying this verse to ourselves. We chuckled because we were quoting the same Bible verse. Then we Prayed:) until we made it to the top! I am training right now for a 10 mile race by our house so during the week I often run a 10 or 11 mile run. I am constantly amazed at the things the human body can do and I thank God every time I run that I can run that far and am able to run at all. I praise the Lord that I'm healthy and able with him who "strengtheneth" me to run!

Running and dutch boys

We ran our race on Saturday and both did good I beat my time from last year by 12:00 min. to finish in 2:18.00 I was happy with that. I honestly didn't know I had it in me. Ben finished with a 2:37.00 and beat his time from last year by 5 min. I was really proud of him he wasn't able to train the last two months because he hurt his leg and he still ran it. I don't think I could've ran it in the way he did. But it's my third 25K race and I can honestly say I have no desire to run a marathon 15.5 miles is plenty far for me. I'm thinking about doing a triathlon in the fall it's called a sprint triathlon. I did it two years ago and it was actually fun so I'm contemplating that. But first I need to recover from my race.

Last week the boys and I went to learn about our heritage. We had a great time learning all about the dutch. We are all dutch just about so it was fun for the boys to see and learn all about the dutch people. We saw some dutch dances and they got to dress as little dutch boys. It really was a fantastic learning experience. We read some books from the library and then they got to see it all come to life we really had a good time.

Here is Roman on the carosal at the dutch place he loved it. We were the only kids at the place almost so they could ride it as much as the wanted. As you can see Roman could've stayed on it all day. This is one of my favorite pictures i've ever taken of Roman. He just has the biggest smile.

Our running family..

Our kids have a fondness for running it seems they have been running a little lately and wanted to do this kids run that is part of the large run I'm doing on Saturday. So off we went last night to the fun run they each got a tee shirt and a goodie bag along with the run. They could run from a half to a whole mile Kaleb did a whole mile and Lucas did a3/4 mile. Lucas thought he ran four laps of the track but it was only three. They had a blast and now want to train for a 5K race. I told them if they keep running that maybe at the end of summer we would let them do one. It was really cute they got a bib number to pin on their shirt and all like the adults do on Sat.

Here is a pic of them all at the zoo last week I thought it turned out so cute. I take a picture of them on this large spider every year. It's fun to see how they've grown every year.

Tuesday...

Well not to much new going on around here. I'm getting ready for my big run on Sat. I'm starting to get really nervous about it. I have a time goal in my head that I must reach and I'm starting to panic that maybe it's an unrealistic goal that I've set for myself. I actually have quite an easy workout week this week to give my body rest for the torture on Sat. I'm running three miles tonight and then that's it for the running until Sat. Maybe another mile or two on Thurs. but that's it...so wish me luck.

Other than running the boys and I have been enjoying time outside it's been so gorgeous out. We've been to the park many a time and last week went to the "good" zoo by us we had a blast. Yesterday the boys went bug hunting again. I got a book from the library so they could identify the bugs they found. We learned about pill bugs, ants, slugs, caterpillars, and a few others we couldn't name oh and we found many worms they saved to go fishing with. Guess it's a good thing I'm not a squeamish mommy when it comes to bugs. Roman found a worm and played with it for a long time he loved it. I was moving bricks out from my garden and underneath them was a world of bugs this is how it all got started. But hey they learned something and I got them to move a bunch of bricks for me..:)

Ok now I'm off to get ready to run I thought about running tomorrow morning but I think I'd rather get it done with tonight. Happy Tues. all.

run, run, run..

Ah, I've been suckered in...hahahah just kidding I signed up for my race today which is 15.5 miles it's not for a month yet but at least I'm in. I ran it the last two years and it's hard and while running it think why am I doing this and I'm never doing it again. But this is the third year I'm doing it and I really do enjoy it. It keeps you in shape and healthy plus it's a huge accomplishment to know you ran 15.5 miles. This Sat. is my longest run before the race which I'll run 14 miles then I sort of taper off until the big day so wish me luck.

I feel like I'm always running and busy the kids get signed up for things and our life just seems like it's so busy sometimes. I rarely have a day that I'm home all day and night. I'm a very on the go person and not much of a homebody but I do enjoy being at home and getting things done. So for next school year I've decided we are going to cut back and quit signing up for so many things. The boys are going to do basektball and then take their Fri. classes and that's it. When I say that's it it still means were gone quite a bit. Now that summer is almost here all our things are ending and were wrapping up school nicely to. The boys should be done in a month so were working hard to stay on track. Lucas is doing his first every report on a State of the U.S. it works with his last chapters in his language book. That might take him longer than a month but we'll see.

Well housework calls and then it's off to workout...let's hope our snow is offically over for the year!!:)
